E.G. "DAN" BOONE
graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Business Administration and also earned his law degree at the University of Florida, graduating in 1954. He is a member of the U.S. District Court, the American Bar Association, the Florida Bar and a charter member of the Venice-Englewood Bar Association. Along with another local resident, he obtained the national bank charter for the First National Bank of Venice (now SunTrust - Venice) and later obtained a national banking charter for Charlotte County National Bank in Port Charlotte (now Bank of America). Mr. Boone served on the Board of Directors of both banks, including loan committee, executive committee, and management committee for numerous years and was the attorney for First National Bank for twelve years. He was the attorney for the Charlotte County Bank and later the Barnett Banks in Charlotte County and South Sarasota County for a total of thirteen years until he resigned from the Barnett Board in 1985. Besides banking, over the years he has worked in the areas of corporate law, general litigation, insurance defense work, and health care law and litigation. He is past President of the Venice-Nokomis Rotary Club and served as a Rotary District Representative. He has been active in Venice church work since moving to the area. He was one of the founding members of Grace United Methodist Church in Venice, and has served in several leadership positions. As a leader in the Venice community, he has been involved in numerous local activities over the years. It was through his work that the airport beach-front property was deeded to the City of Venice. He formed a group named the Civic Action Association for the purpose of obtaining central water and central sewage disposal for the City of Venice. The same group was successful in getting many streets in the City paved. He is the founding President of the Venice Symphony Orchestra. He was elected to the prestigious 21-member University of Florida Law Center Board of Trustees in 1987 and served for nine years. He also served on the billion dollar University of Florida Foundation Investment Committee. He is a member of the University of Florida Hall of Fame.
